First Aid at Work

This courser aims to provide delegates with an understanding to be able to assess emergency situations and carry out appropriate action including informing emergency services; carry out artificial ventilation and chest compressions; place casualty in the recovery position and to use this position to; clear obstructed airway; control severe bleeding; recognize and treat for shock; to understand the requirements of the first aid kit and how report accidents in the work place; recognize and treat major illnesses; deal with burns and scalds; recognize and fractures and carry out the duties of a first aider in a safe and approved manner, with no risk to self or third party.

  • The unconscious casualty
  • Cardio-pulmonary resuscitation CPR
  • Head injuries
  • Chocking and asthma
  • Severe bleeding
  • Shock
  • The first aid kit and reporting procedures
  • Heart attack, seizures and diabetes
  • Burns and scalds
  • Fractures


Target Audience      

This course is designed for anyone involved in a workplace, whether employer or employee who are required to provide first aid.



Delegates who successfully complete this course, including the practical assessments will receive an SMTS certificate valid for 3 years. It is widely recommended that a 3-hour update refresher to be conducted annually and it is mandatory to sit a 2-day re-certification course after 3 years to retain the qualification.
